The High Court has ruled that grapefruit knives are knives and therefore it is illegal to sell them to under-18s. After originally being ruled as fine by three magistrates the ruling was overturned. From the
BBC:
Steve Johnson, trading standards manager, said it would have set a "dangerous precedent" if the ruling had not been overturned.
The slippery slope argument apparently only works one way.
Terrible article by the BBC.
ReplyDeleteLooking at the photo I was thinking, well it's clearly a knife, but when you read the description, "a four-inch long pointed blade serrated on both sides and curved at the end" it's clear that the photos is unrelated to the case.
What they are describing is this: https://www.heimerdingercutlery.com/images/kitchentools/russ18140_grapefruitknifewoodphoto_x.jpg
